One day each year brings Yalies around the globe to participate in service projects to better the lives of others in our communities (www.yaledayofservice.org).  There are 2 opportunities this year:

The KIPP Academy project (Saturday, May 7, 10AM – noon)

For several years, the Yale Alumni Association of Maryland, working with the Guilford Garden Club and students and parents from the school, has helped weed, plant and remove trash in the gardens, flower beds and surrounding grounds of the KIPP Academy. We are delighted to participate in this worthwhile endeavor once again. All ages are welcome and supplies (gloves, rakes, shovels and plants) will be provided. The event typically goes until noon or a little past noon.

Harlem Park, working with the Urban Roots Foundation (Saturday, May 14, 9AM – noon)

United Urban Roots Foundation has adopted several nuisance lots in Baltimore and they are working to turn these into beautiful green spaces over the next few months. Initial clean-up has begun and they would like our assistance in help with the clean-up.

Volunteers must be at least 18.  Because the site may contain hazardous materials they suggest you wear long-sleeve shirts, long pants and comfortable and sturdy boots or shoes.
