As We Liked It – YAAM at Center Stage
Posted by Yale Alumni Association of Maryland on Jan 31, 2016 in Blog,News
Two dozen Yalies joined friends from the University of Chicago Alumni Association and other theater-loving patrons to enjoy an exciting and thought-provoking performance of Shakespeare’s As You Like It, produced by Center Stage in residence at Towson University. The audience experienced laughter and intrigue as the all-female cast presented a beautifully-set, ingeniously-scripted version of this romance between Rosalind and Orlando. Prior to the show, our Yale alumni enjoyed an opportunity to mingle with University of Chicago alumni over a delicious lunch at The Orient restaurant. Gavin Witt, BA’89, the Associate Artistic Director and Dramaturg at Center Stage responsible for this re-imagining of As You Like It, gave a masterful pre-performance lecture on the ins and outs of dramaturgy, his approach to Shakespeare, and the commentary on gender roles, identity, and romance conveyed by the non-traditional staging and casting of the show. We hope this is the first of many collaborations to come with Center Stage, Gavin Witt, and the UChicago alumni!
