Lachezar Kostov (’08AD) was appointed Assistant Principal Cellist at the BSO in 2016. Ask him about his international recital career with the Kostov-Valkov Duo (see video below), his love of single-malt Scotch, and/or what it was like to co-pilot a private plane with astronaut General William “Bill” Anders of Apollo 8.
Conductor Marin Alsop (Yale ’72-’75) won a MacArthur “genius grant” Fellowship in 2005. A protégé of Leonard Bernstein, she became the first woman to lead a major American orchestra when she joined the BSO as its Music Director in 2007.
