****WE REGRET TO INFORM YOU THAT THIS EVENT HAS BEEN POSTPONED TO A LATER DATE****

Join us on Thursday, September 5 at the The Baltimore Country Club (FIVE FARMS location) to welcome Assistant Professor Allison P. Harris, who teaches the very popular course “The Politics of HBO’s “The Wire”.

Have you lived in Baltimore for years but never seen The Wire? Or perhaps you’ve seen every season and enjoyed spotting locations referenced on the show as you drive around town? Either way, The Wire is well known for being one of the best shows ever written, and in many ways it seems as current today as it was two decades ago. One reason for this is the way that it delves into the way that our society works, using the broken institutions of Baltimore to explore the ins and outs of a modern American city. It’s also the reason it’s such an effective topic for the popular spring course taught by Institution for Social and Policy Studies (ISPS) faculty fellow and Assistant Professor of Political Science Professor Allison Harris“The Politics of HBO’s ‘The Wire.’”

“This show offers an excellent opportunity to investigate cities, their problems, and their politics,” said Harris, an assistant professor of political science. “My goal is for students to enjoy the show and its deeply resonant and enduring themes while learning about how social scientists ask and attempt to answer questions that help us better understand the world around us.” Since most of us won’t get to experience the full course, the Yale Alumni Association of Maryland has partnered with the AYA-Redpath Speakers Program to bring Professor Allison Harris to you.

Allison P. Harris is an Assistant Professor of Political Science at Yale University and a resident fellow at the Institution of Social and Policy Studies. She conducts research in American politics with a specialization in law and courts. Prof. Harris’ current research agenda investigates how institutional change affects disparities in institutional outcomes, specifically within the criminal legal system. Prior to joining the faculty at Yale, Prof. Harris was an Assistant Professor at the Pennsylvania State University and a Postdoctoral Research Associate at Princeton University.

This event is being sponsored by the AYA-Redpath Speakers Program which sends current Yale faculty and administrators to speak to alumni at Yale Club luncheons, receptions, annual dinners and other special events.  We are very pleased to have support from the Robert U. Redpath Jr. ’28 Fund to make this important program possible.
