Calling all Maryland Yalies and their friends and family! We will be having the 11th annual Yale Day of Service on Saturday, May 11
th, 2019, so mark your calendars. See below for opportunities in our area:

Blue Water Baltimore (9:00 AM – 12 Noon) REGISTER

Yale alumni, family and friends will help local residents plant trees with Blue Water Baltimore volunteers at the Village of 12 Trees site  26 Papago Court, Randallstown, MD from 9:00am until 12 Noon.  Blue Water Baltimore’s mission is “to restore the quality of Baltimore’s rivers, streams and Harbor to foster a healthy environment, a strong economy, and thriving communities. We work towards a future when our neighborhood streams are safe for fishing and swimming and our clean harbor is the pride of our city”.  Blue Water Baltimore also requires volunteers to register on their website via the link on the YALE DOS Registration page.

Potomac Riverkeeper Network protects the public’s right to clean water in the Potomac and Shenandoah Rivers through assessment, advocacy, and enforcement. National Harbor Marina is our partner for this event.

Volunteers will be helping to pick up trash and unwanted debris. Children ages 6+ welcome. Wear waterproof shoes or shoes you don’t mind getting wet/muddy.

Volunteers will receive vouchers for complimentary parking in any of the National Harbor Garages or Carousel Lot (excludes the Gaylord Hotel and any street meters), courtesy of our friends at National Harbor.

Silver Spring:A Wider Circle – Helping the Homeless (9:30AM – 1:00PM) REGISTER

A Wider Circle serves individuals and families throughout the DC Metro area who are transitioning out of homelessness into apartments that are essentially empty. The clients served are often sleeping on the floor and storing their clothes in plastic bags.

On May 11, Yale Alums and their family and friends will work at the center to help organize and distribute items to these families free of charge. We will unpack boxes, sort, organize and distribute furniture, household items, childrens books, toys & clothing, professional clothing, and other items.

There will be projects for all ages and skill levels so if you aren’t able to lift boxes and furniture, don’t be deterred. If you are a skilled or amateur photographer or a social media expert you can sign up to take pictures and post them to the YDOS site throughout the morning. This is a warehouse setting so it’s a big space so you can get a great workout if you want to. There are other areas where you can sit and sort for those who like to stay in one place.

There is free parking in a school lot right next to our building and the Center is located between the Forest Glen and Silver Spring Metro about a mile from each. Directions are also posted on our website.
